Some say that Stussy is back, others say they never left — but there is one thing that’s for sure: 2020 will go down as one of the brand’s biggest years in sneakers. After reinvigorating Nike’s Spiridon Caged 2 by-way-of a three-piece collaboration, along with an upcoming two-pair-pack of Kukini-crossover Caged 2s, Stussy has been given a shot at the iconic Air Force 1 for Holiday 2020.
A collaborator’s dream, the blank canvas that is the Air Force 1 is a privilege to design on, and we’re not expecting anything less than brilliance from arguably the sneaker industry’s best-ever collaborators. And with first looks surfacing today, we’re in awe. While it arrives on a brand new silhouette, the construction is complementary to that of their Fossil-colored Spiridon from earlier this year.
A hemp fabrication dresses the entirety of the overlaid panels, bearing a rough texture that is also a close match in hue. Swooshes, instead of startling black like the aforementioned, now arrive in tonal embroidery, segmented straight through the middle for an ancient aesthetic. Coordinating colors are used elsewhere, including leather liners, fawn sole units, and tonal forefoot embroidery that appears to be an ornate S.
